Croydon got a point on the board in a competitive game against league newcomers, Chessington and Hook United.

Croydon started strongly, with several excellent chances. Newcomer Nikiya Palmer-Steele made her mark on the game with an excellent run down the wing, carefully finding Beth Brenchley by the box who got the ball to Jade Asagba to finish and put Croydon ahead within 15 minutes.

Celebrations were short-lived however, when a miscommunication at the back resulted in a Chessington player being brought down in the box. Chessington despatched the resulting penalty and drew level.

From there, the game opened up, with both sides having chances to score. It was Chessington who struck first though, with an excellent long range effort eluding Dan De Souza in the Croydon goal. The balance of play turned in Chessington’s favour with them making it 1-3 soon after.

Croydon would not be beaten though and continued to drive forward. They got their reward just before the half time whistle, with a scramble in the box resulting in a Chessington own goal and bringing the score to 2-3 at the end of the first 45.

Croydon came out revitalised in the second half and continued to drive forward, with several opportunities to score going just wide or over the bar. Their efforts paid off with Nikiya’s excellent performance getting a deserved goal to bring Croydon level. The Trams continued to have opportunities, with one effort in particular being juggled out of danger by the Chessington keeper, but could not get the finish. The game finished all square at 3-3, but Croydon will be buoyed by a strong attacking spirit in the second half.

Player of the match was unsurprisingly Nikiya Palmer-Steele who was a constant threat on the wing, and linked up well with Beth Brenchley and Kacie Nadison-Singh in the midfield.
